1/2 cup butter
1/3 cup sugar
1 egg yolk
1 teaspoon peppermint extract
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
Red gel-paste food color

Heat oven to 350 degrees F
2 ungreased cookies sheets
In a medium bowl cream the butter and sugar on medium speed until light and fluffy.
Add egg yolk, peppermint extract, vanilla and beat until well blend.
On low speed add the flour and salt, mix until well blended.
Divide the dough in half and add the red gel-paste to half of the dough. We use 5 different tooth picks dipped in the gel-paste so that the gel does not become contaminated with dough. Adjust the amout to you liking.
Divide each half into 4 pieces. Roll each piece into 10 inch logs.
Place one red log next to one white log and gently press together.
Gently roll the logs on the work surface to smooth out the dough.
Cut each red/white log into 9 pieces. Repeat with remaining dough.
Take each piece between the thum, index finger and middle finger of both hands and twist the dough. Then roll the dough into balls.
Place the dough balls on ungreased cookie sheet and press 1 kiss into each cookie.
Bake for 11 to 13 minutes or until slightly browned on the bottom.
